Solo painter · est. 2019

Honest paintwork, cut in by hand, in Ottawa homes.

I am Kayla Kluke. I run Klukes Painting on my own. Interiors, exteriors, wallpaper installs and wood stain, taken slowly enough to land the lines and the edges right the first time.

Postcards from the field

A small stack of recent rooms, sent home from the job.

Five quick notes from this past season. The kind I leave taped to the fridge after a finish day. Bungalows in Westboro, a back-of-house in Stittsville, a stair stain in Kanata. Different rooms, same patient hand.

Postcard 01 · Westboro

A bungalow living room, taken back to chalk-white.

Two coats of a clean, low-VOC matte over the existing builder beige. New window casings cut in by hand. The owners wanted the room quieter, and the light to do more of the work, and that is what we left them with.

Postcard 02 · Stittsville

An upstairs hallway, finally given a real colour.

The family lived with the original ten-year-old eggshell long enough. We landed on a soft warm clay, ran it from the stair head to the linen closet, and patched eight years of tape and toy chips along the way.

Postcard 03 · Kanata

Wallpaper, hung straight, in a girl’s first bedroom.

Floral grasscloth on the head wall, a single coat of soft sage on the rest. Wallpaper is a slow patient afternoon. Book the seams, plumb the first drop, then let everything else hang from that one true line.

Postcard 04 · Orleans

An exterior front door, brought back to brick-warm coral.

Sanded, primed, two finish coats of an exterior alkyd. The hardware came off, was wrapped, and went back on the same evening. The owner wrote the next morning to say the neighbours had stopped by twice already.

Postcard 05 · Barrhaven

A kitchen island, restained walnut, by hand.

Old finish stripped, the grain coaxed back open, two passes of an oil-based walnut stain wiped on then off, then a satin top coat. The whole thing took a careful weekend. It will take ten more years to need anything from me again.

30 seconds on the brush

A short, quiet walkthrough of how a job actually looks.

No music, no narration. Just a roller laying off a wall, the kind of footage that says more about how a finish lands than any before-and-after gallery.

Filmed on a small interior in Centretown last March. The wall is in its first finish coat.

What neighbours have said

Five-line reviews from the people who hired me twice.

Most of these come straight off Klukes Painting on Facebook. None are paid, none are anonymised. If you want to verify, the page is linked in the footer.

Kayla repainted our whole main floor and three doors. She was the only painter who actually showed up to quote, and she was tidier on day one than my last contractor was on day three. I hired her again a year later for the basement.

We had a wallpaper job nobody wanted to touch. A curved stairwell with a floral grasscloth. Kayla took the time to plumb it from the top step and we cannot find a single bad seam. Quiet, careful, lovely to have in the house.

Kayla restained our kitchen island and saved us from replacing it. She actually slowed down to do the job, which is more than I can say about most of the trades who came through this winter. Booked her again for the deck in May.

Who is at the door

A solo painter, working one room at a time, across the Ottawa region.

I started Klukes Painting in 2019 after a long stretch helping my dad paint summer cottages on the Quebec side. I take one client at a time, stay on site until the job is finished, and quote every project in person so the number on the page is the number you pay.

Most of my work comes by word of mouth out of Westboro, Stittsville, Kanata, Orleans and Barrhaven. I run a clean kit, lay a drop sheet over every floor I cross, and tend to leave a place tidier than the way I found it. If that sounds like the painter you have been quietly hoping to find, I am free to come and look at your room.
